Alexander Otto was born in Hamburg in 1967. After obtaining his international baccalaureate (IB) in Oxford, he studied at Harvard University and Harvard Business School. Otto was appointed Chief Executive Officer of ECE in 2000. Under his leadership, ECE set its main focus on the expansion from Germany to other European markets. In addition, ECE has become a leading developer and service provider in the field of office and special-purpose properties. Alexander Otto holds a seat on the supervisory boards of the otto group and DES Deutsche EuroShop AG and is also a member of the Advisory Board of Peek&Cloppenburg KG in Düsseldorf. In addition Otto is Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Europe, Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Hamburger Sport-Verein (HSV) and board member of the Harvard Business School Foundation of Germany.

The company is European market leader with 140 managed shopping centers. On an overall sales area of 4.4 million square meters, about 15,000 retail businesses generate 16 billion euros in annual sales.
